The City Sings... and Delivers
Seven London schools will receive cash awards of £1000 after participating in "The City Sings ...Baroque meets the World".
Secondary schools Oaklands, and George Green's in Tower Hamlets and the Bridge Academy in Hackney, and primary schools St Clement Danes in Westminster, Loughborough in Lambeth and Stepney Greencoat and St Paul's C of E in Tower Hamlets will receive the awards for music and choral education in their schools, generated through ticket proceeds from the City Sings concert at the Barbican in June.
The City Sings brought together 150 children from these schools with choirs from seven City companies. They performed "A Fairy Dream", an original adaptation of Purcell's Fairy Queen, composed for The City Sings by Harvey Brough.
Each school plans to use the award to further music and singing in their schools.
Stepney Greencoat head Vivian Onwubalili brought her team of governors to the concert in June and plans to leverage staff and governors' commitment and the cash award to expand her school's music programme.
All of the school choirs plan to perform again with the choirs of their partner companies.
